Healthy Living
Healthy living should be a life long endeavor, but let’s be real. Life happens. The packed schedules, the late nights, the quick and easy dinners, and the forgetfulness to take care of ourselves. I think we can all admit that we are all in the same boat. Well here at Stay Wildflower, we are determined to stick with our New Year’s resolutions; in other words maintaining a simple, easy, and healthy lifestyle that doesn’t involve a full life change. Rather small redirections to get us to our goals. Here are some tips and tricks that we encourage others, especially our guests who are traveling and temporarily staying in a Stay Wildflower home.
Let’s begin!
Keep active - Listen. You don’t need to run marathons. You don’t need to sign up for a daily workout classes. You don’t need to hate being active. There is a huge misconception that this needs to happen in order to be fit or healthy. Simply move your body. All what I mentioned is great, but not necessary. You can simply go for a walk, bike ride by the beach, or do an at-home stretch class. These are so easy to do and so helpful for your body.
Cleaning eating - Ever heard ‘Eat the rainbow’ (not referring to Skittles)? As much as we don’t want to be generic, that is true. Fill your bellies with wholesome, clean foods aka foods that haven’t been processed. Anything that you can grow in a garden is a good bet! And if you can’t get fresh fruits and vegetables, find a local juice, smoothie, or salad bar restaurant. There are plenty of options!
Sleep habits - Put down the phone at least 30 minutes before bed, get into a calm state, and try to sleep for 8 hours (totally understand that isn’t feasible for everyone). It is such a way to recharge and reset for the next day!
Quiet time - The noise around us is loud. Very loud. It isn’t until we are laying in our beds about to sleep that we realize just how hectic and crazy the day has been. It doesn’t have to be this way. Simply 5-10 minutes of quiet time can help you refocus your attention, and truly breathe and destress from whatever is happening in your day.
Read/Listen to a podcast - I am sure many are rolling their eyes on this one. Is this really necessary? I would throw this in with the self-care category. We all have responsibilities which is important, but there are times we just need ‘me-time’. Time where you can invest your energy in learning and expanding your world view. Find a book and podcast that interests you and try it out.
Create a weekly schedule - With a million things on our mind, it is hard to remember let alone execute the many items on our lists. Invest in a planner. It allows you to say yes or no to the never-ending requests that come your way, and to be productive over a ‘longer’ period of time. Plus it helps you stay committed to your obligations. Ultimately it strengths you and the relationships around you.
Get outside! - It sounds ridiculous but just spending 30 minutes outside can be life changing. There are days where life pulls you in a several directions, but intentionally stepping in nature can completely refresh and recharge the soul!
Drink water - In our opinion, the hardest thing to do. There are hours long stretches that we just fail to drink water. We will blame it on the busyness of life. Try to intentionally drink several glasses of water a day, and you will see the positive effects it will have on your whole body.
